Dazed and Confused

The Sun – it taunted us with it elusiveness. We set off not wanting to waste the rare sunset we were going to be out in. Sadly the sun outwitted us and failed to shine on our chosen subject and set rather unceremoniously.

We drove frantically west with time against us seeking a good sunset subject. We found quite an attractive lake/marsh with a grove of trees behind it being reflected…sadly the sun disappeared behind a large cloud and then completly down behind a hill. We tried to chase it into a neighbouring valley but no decent foregound could be found.

After the horrible sunset we proceeded to travel the rural roads of the area. Sven was lured but the sound of running water to a culvert under a road. He bravley proceeded in and got wet shoes while I remained on dry land, foolishingly haven chosen to wear thongs (it was Australia Day after all!).

In an effort to annoy his long suffering wife with yet more petrol pump shots, Sven then guided us towards a set of them in a nearby town. The most interesting aspect of them turned out to be a little tree frog that was wrapped around one of the old, decaying hoses.

Finally on the way home we decided an attempt at star trails on the moon-less night was needed. A roadside cemetary provided the foreground. Not having time for a very long exposure I limited mine to 12 minutes and I got pretty much exactly what I expected…yet another star trail shot. If I took it again it would be stopped right down for 30+ minutes.

Yet again we were on our GOTO road – we have to stop heading that way. It’s crap.
Curse you, fickle sunlight!
What isn’t really apparent in that shot of me in the culvert, is that it was actually getting quite dark, and I was being eaten by mosquitoes on every patch of skin that didn’t have repellent applied.
Yeah that was getting towards torches out time. I like the way the water looks in that shot – only takes a very small amount of light.
Also note the poorly placed ELECTRIC fence to the right of frame.
Why do I get 4 notifications on my email 1 minute apart? Can you stop that please sweets? I know I always go on about the drains but people have died wading out on weir thingis too! Plus there was no pic of the HUGE spider you raced home to catch for me
Stupid WordPress. Sorry.
It was a large Huntsman indeed baby – you are right, it should have been photographed!
I don’t seem to have received any notification at all, but I get two each time there’s a new baby one
Also, don’t worry, that wasn’t a weir, just a causeway – basically a creek bed with a concrete section. That was an electric fence just off the the right, though – not sure what that would do to a camera…
Long-suffering wife indeed
I’m glad the froggy was there to divert both of your attention.
Yes Sven…where are the multiple frames you shot of the pumps themselves? The reason we went there was to “get a quick shot to annoy Veronica”.
Well, I *do* have several shots of the pumps, complete with you in either the foreground or background. Hmm, those may be worthy of a whole post in themselves
