More Than Meets the Eye

“Waterslide-bot, transform… then sit and rust for 20 years…”. I have known about this old waterslide frame for some years but never really thought much of it. So a closer look was warranted, but this was not our primary destination…

We first attempted to find a WW2 bunker on the outskirts of the city, in the bush, in the dark…turns out, not the wisest choice. We searched for quite some time with torches blazing. Skirting around nearby houses, trying not to blind them with powerful torch beams. We managed to set every dog within a 1km radius barking but in the end found nothing. Further investigation on return revealed that the bunker may actually be right next to someones house.
So it was with disappointment we fell back to our backup destination, the waterslide frame. By this time I was dead on my feet and all but dragged my tripod from spot to spot, giving little to no thought to what I was taking.

Post processing is slightly de-saturated (above) vs slightly over-saturated (below). The structure itself looks in decent shape from a distance, but up close the stair treads and landings are very heavily rusted and look like they would give way quickly, leading to tetanus boosters for all. The only non-frame part remaining was the two wash pools at the top where the water and patrons would once have entered the slide.

A actually think there could be a decent shot here but it would require a better frame of mind than I was in after hours of searching the night bush for bunkers 🙂

Hey, I was going to take that same shot with the drain in the foreground! I’d planned to put a diffused torch inside, though.
Indeed I did think of that but sneakers only, with the water…lazy etc. I am just holding up a diffused torch over the camera.
That picture also serves as a “Where’s Sven”.
Hey, I just noticed the bonus site pimping!
Auto tagged on Lightroom export.
With a background and all! I might have to review my ‘workflow’ 🙂
Would you be able to tell me if this still stands, and if so, where it is at all?
Sadly not. The march of progress claimed it some time ago.
