Launched from Newcastle upon Tyne in 1884 and taking 10 months to reach Brisbane, the HMQS Gayundah sailed for 74 years before running aground at Woody Point in Redcliffe.  That was 50 years ago this year, and the fact that there is still anything recognisable remaining is a testament to the quality of Victorian engineering.
