We find ourselves…in Ipswich.
After realising our plan to take pictures of the Ekka fireworks had arrived to late and the fireworks had actually ended we headed out of the city via Mogill Rd/Mt Crosby. We spotted a few potential locations for the future when cloud cover is not so bad. As it turns out the road we were on ended in the bustling metropolis of Ipswich.

Now when I say bustling I refer to the roving gangs of youths on the streets and the bogans lighting up their 4WD’s in the main streets. We felt a little uneasy with seemingly only two aging security guards defending the inner city. Sven did try to put us “on the right side of the law” by offering one of the guards a hearty cowboy “Howdy” which seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Anyway we walked through the town and down towards the river where we found the footing of an old bridge which formed part of Queensland’s oldest railway and directly above it, on the steep sloping bank, was a railway switch yard we investigated. Right BELOW it however was a public toilet with several very seedy looking middle aged men hanging around – needless to say we did not, hang around that is.

This is the modern bridge which oddly takes the tracks right through the middle of a newly built shopping center? The shot above is HDR.

The view down the banks of the river from the bridge, looking across at the shopping center.

Just snapping… Actually interestingly below I could not make the AF on my camera focus on the inside of the carpark (where the light was) and instead it insisted on focusing on the grill in front. I switched to manual, but it got me wondering how AF actually works?

Finally we headed back to the car avoiding the roaming gangs and came across a pub with a most interesting support structure – it looked like a mine shaft or something.

In my defence, I offered up an “Evening”, rathr than a “Howdy”, though either way it had little impact on the guards’ tough facade.
My apologies. It was a nice try at any rate.
By the way, I think I have the same shot as your first one, though I had the tripod substantially lower. That’s assuming you used a tripod – you might just have very steady hands.
