Hyperfocal

Determined to not bugger up depth of field focusing again I am writing a Java app for my phone to calculate hyper-focal distances. Despite the common thought to “set to infinity” with the wide it often results in out of focus close foreground and focusing close often makes distant objects out of focus. And at night you really don’t want to use F/16 or something. Take the dam shot from the other night – I was focused at around 1.5m@15mm F5.6 making the distant focus around 400m – clearly the crane was further away. Had I focused at 2m the foreground would still have been in focus as would objects up to 1km away.

Stay tuned for a download.
