Damn darkness…then a dam.

Sven and I headed out into the black to Natural Bridge in the Gold Coast hinterland. Turns out we left it a bit late and the moon had set and the park was in near total darkness – despite the glow worms under the rock formation. So after an enjoyable midnight walk through the national park and sometimes spooky encounters with other late night walkers, we ended up on the bank of the Hinz dam.

River squatters.

Sven and I hit the road heading towards some interesting looking boats (spotted on Google Earth) in a small river/creek in the east of Brisbane. When we arrived we found what could only be described as a shanty town of boats and home made jetties with hand painted “Keep Out” signs. However from the shanty town we were able to spot a wreck further downstream so we donned the gumboots and headed in.

This post dedicated to Sven. A true patriot who nearly abandoned his wife in her time of need to take photos. Alas I headed out by myself, not nearly as much fun I must say. Also feel quite exposed (chortle, chortle) wandering around in dark deserted places! Not feeling like driving far I decided to limit myself to a 5km radius of my house and see what I could find.
