Stiching Pano’s
Since I don’t have much new content at present I am going to start out with some pano’s I have stitched up over the years. I don’t do them often and it really does require a tripod for accurate movement of the camera, but when it all stitches up well they can make very striking images. Great in some situations if you can’t afford a good fisheye
Like this bullring, the oldest of its kind in Sevilla, Spain. The red streaks are the remains of the last bull as it was dragged around the ring in triumph. Nice.

This shot is out my apartment window in Bristol, UK. It was 3 shots on my little old Powershot S45 and accompaning penlight tripod.

The Roman Colosseum featuring my very own “Tripod Girl” (® longexposure.net
) Was shot handheld and is composed of 5 frames. Tripod is always best for pano’s as changes in the pitch of your shots can make stitching much harder – like this shot has a line of distortion on the right side (not really visible on thumbnail). I have quite a collection of botched pano frames where no matter how hard I tried I could not produce a decent image.

A lesson learned in this shot was to overshoot (ie. use a wider focal length than might seem necessary) the frames where heavy perspective correction will be required. You can see on the top and bottom edges black areas where no image data was available and a square crop would have removed details from the center of the image. Still a nice image in Szentendre, Hungary.

Lastly this is a full 360 of the town square in Prague. I braved freezing cold late(ish) in the night trying to minimise people blurring though the shots. All frames were shot from the center of the square at 35mm, using the same exposure settings (F4). Each frame is around 25 degrees from the last. The full size is around 40 megapixels. Since it is so wide clicking will provide a slightly larger version.
The shots were stitched with a combination of Autostitch, RealViz and Photoshop for tidying up.
